Maria Gonzalez

Maria Gonzalez is a native of Colombia and moved to the United States in 1998. She arrived to this country speaking no English but was never an obstacle to build a successful career.  Maria studied Accounting in Medellin, Colombia but growing up was a competitive swimmer and played water polo all the way to a national team level, her lifelong passion has always been in fitness and helping others.

Following her move to the U.S., Maria began her career at ClubFitness in 2001 in our Aquatics department as a lifeguard, swim instructor and water exercise instructor. In 2005 she was promoted to Aquatics Director and by 2007, she was invited to join The Clubs Management Team. In 2011, Maria was promoted, as Club Manager for the Oak Branch location. In 2013, she was promoted as the Executive Director of ClubFitness Greensboro.  In 2019, she was promoted as the ClubFitness Greensboro CEO.

Maria has exemplified hard work, dedication, and a commitment to education and personal growth. Her leadership and positive encouragement are an inspiration to our members, staff, and the community.

She is an active member of this community as a volunteer and in more formal roles in different organizations and received a Leadership Medal in 2018 from Leadership Greensboro. A 2015 class participant of Leadership Greensboro and 2016 Leadership Greensboro Program Co-Chair, 2020 Other Voices and 2021 Other Voices Executive class participant.  She is a member of Cone Health Board of Trustees, NC Folk Festival, Weaver Foundation, NCCJ, Hirsch Wellness Network, GEA Leadership Team, Grants Committee of City Arts of Greensboro and Co-Chair of Casa Azul of Greensboro.  Maria is a founding partner of the GSO National and International Dance Day at Lebauer Park and led Faces of Diversity: Greensboro Project.  These events have brought hundreds of people together to dance, laugh, make new friends while embracing and celebrating the diversity of our community. 

FUN FACT: Maria is an avid foodie and loves to find the best local restaurants everywhere she goes.
