Maria Gonzalez is the CEO of ClubFitness Greensboro, a purpose-driven leader and a recognized voice in the wellness, fitness, and community leadership space.
Originally from Colombia, Maria moved to the United States in 1998, arriving with no English but a deep sense of determination and resilience. What could have been a barrier became the foundation of her story; one defined by courage, growth, and commitment to serving others.
With a background in Accounting from Medellin, Colombia, and as a former competitive swimmer and water polo athlete with the Colombian National Team, Maria has always been driven by discipline, performance, and passion for helping others thrive.
She began her journey with ClubFitness in 2001 as a lifeguard, swimming, and water exercise instructor. Through her people-first leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence, she advanced through the organization, serving in multiple leadership roles before becoming the CEO in 2019. Today, she leads ClubFitness Greensboro with a clear vision: to create spaces where wellness, community, and human connection come together.
Maria's leadership philosophy is rooted in trust, inclusivity, and purpose. She believes that fitness is not just about physical activity, it is a gateway to stronger communities, better health outcomes and more connected lives.
Her impact extends far beyond the walls of ClubFitness Greensboro. Maria serves on the Board of the Health and Fitness Association (HFA), contributing to national and global conversations shaping the future of the wellness and fitness industry. She also serves on the boards of Cone Health, Truist Community Advisory Board, North Carolina Folk Festival, Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, Casa Azul of Greensboro. Through these roles, she actively works to bridge the gap between health, fitness, arts, culture and community; championing initiatives that promote well-being, equity, and access for all.
Maria is also known for creating and leading community experiences that bring people together through movement and culture. From large scale dance events to wellness-driven initiatives, her work reflects her belief that true impact happens when people feel seen, included and inspired.
